Masataka Taketsuru
The son of a sake distiller who learnt the art of whisky making in Scotland and was employed by Shinjiro Torii to develop Yamazaki distillery.
In 1934 Taketsuru left Torii’s Kotobukiya company to set up in his own right, forming Dai Nippon Kaju Kabushiki Kaisha, later renamed Nikka, and building Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido.
